An 18-year-old received a felony stay of imposition Friday for his role in a firearm burglary this April.

Jayson Christopher Pomsyda, of Austin, was convicted of second-degree burglary and sentenced to five years’ supervised probation. He must also pay $1,000 in restitution. Pomsyda was also recently convicted of fifth-degree assault and sentenced to one year of probation and fined $300.

Police interviewed juveniles allegedly involved in the case, who both state that they broke in through a window at the 900 block of Fifth Avenue NW in early April and discovered that Jason Pomsyda, 18, and another man, Shane Douglas Postema, 22, were already inside and trying to break into a gun safe. The court complaint adds that the juveniles left with a smaller safe.

The men and juveniles allegedly collaborated in the burglary as they knew the owner of the home had a safe full of guns and knives and was on vacation at the time.

One Austin man discovered info about the burglary, found some of the weapons and turned them into authorities. Authorities later found several other weapons when those involved admitted to stashing them in the woods.

Postema’s sentencing is scheduled for July 20.
