An Austin man accused in a series of check forgeries and one related burglary changed his plea to guilty Thursday in Mower County Court.
Ryan Charles Ball, 27, pleaded guilty to check forgery and fifth-degree drug possession, both felonies, and two gross misdemeanor check forgeries in a separate case. One charge for third-degree burglary was dismissed.
A woman said Ball stole two of her checks sometime on April 24, forged them and cashed them at a grocery store. Surveillance videos captured Ball cashing the checks at the store on two different occasions, according to the report. Days later, Ball allegedly stole the same woman’s work key, entered her place of employment and stole several company checks. The court complaint adds a bank cashier recognized Ball and confirmed when he cashed the checks. Police arrested Ball on May 8 and found a methamphetamine pipe with traces of meth, along with three of the company checks, according to the complaint.
Ball’s sentencing is set for Sept. 14.
