APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — A man and woman have been found dead in the parking lot of an Apple Valley apartment complex, victims of an apparent double shooting.

Police responded Saturday morning to a report of shots fired. They found the two people, both 41 years old, lying unresponsive. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities haven’t released the victims’ names. However, they say the woman lived at the apartment complex and the man was from Dakota County.

Witnesses told police the man shot the woman and then turned the gun on himself. Police say the man and woman had been in a relationship at one point and had children together.

The woman’s two children were with a baby sitter at the time of the shooting. They’ve been placed in protective custody.
