More than a year and a half after the arrest, an Austin man has been sentenced in a felony drug case.

Nicholas James Dahmen, 39, was convicted Friday in Mower County Court of fifth-degree drug possession for methamphetamine possession. He was sentenced to six month in jail and placed on 10 years’ probation.

Dahmen was arrested on Jan. 7, 2011, when a search warrant served at a woman’s home on the 800 block of Fifth Street NW resulted in a meth find. Dahmen said there was no meth or drug paraphernalia in the home and that he and the woman, Jana Michelle Lenz, 34, would test negative for meth.

But according to the court complaint, police found a baggie containing meth residue, a digital scale containing meth residue, 0.10 grams of meth in a bag, 10 Darvocet pills and assorted grinders, baggies, straws, tubes and glass pipes containing both meth and marijuana residue in the house.

The report also states two preschool-aged children were in a bedroom that had a door secured with a knife. The door handle was missing, which made entering the room difficult.

When police questioned Lenz, she said the drugs and paraphernalia were hers and that she started using meth again in September 2010. She said Dahmen was trying to get her to “straighten out.”

Lenz received a felony stay of imposition for both fifth-degree drug possession and storing meth near a child. She was placed on five years’ probation.
