A Spring Valley man is in St. Marys Hospital in Rochester after he crashed his motorcycle at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The Mayo 1 helicopter flew William John Nielsen, 25, to the hospital after he failed to make a curve at the north end of LeRoy and went into the ditch. According to the Mower County Sheriff’s report, Nielsen appeared to be traveling very fast when he slammed on the brakes and skid for about 165 feet. He and his 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan then went into the ditch where Nielsen fell off and slid for another 45 feet.

Chief Deputy Mark May had no update on Nielsen’s condition as of Monday morning. The report does not state if Nielsen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
