This will be a historic week for the arts in Austin.

At 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Austin residents are invited to exercise their arts at the first Fourth Avenue Arts Triathlon which will be offered by the Austin Public Library, Historic Paramount Theatre and Hormel Historic Home.

The new, free event was developed by the three organizations to promote the arts in the community and cap off the summer programming schedule. Participants will check in at the Park and Rec Pavilion between the library and the pool for an artist number and instructions.

Then each person will complete an arts activity at the Austin Public Library (poetry), Historic Paramount Theatre (performance) and the Hormel Historic Home (visual art).

After completing three arts events, participants can return to the pavilion for post-event fruit and water.

No registration is required, but groups of 10 or more are asked to contact the library at 433-2391.

Then the long-anticipated Austin ArtWorks Festival hits the historic downtown Power Plant this Saturday and Sunday.

There will be numerous artists, authors, musicians, and activities for everyone to enjoy. Visit austinartworksfestival.org for the most updated information about this fantastic event.

In addition to these first time events, Matchbox Children’s Theatre will present their summer production of “The Enchantment of Beauty and the Beast,” Aug. 24-26.

Tickets are available at Austin Hy-Vee, Sterling Main Street, and the Paramount Theatre Box Office.

Finally, we will be offering a special yoga and potluck fundraiser at the Paramount Theatre on at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A suggested $10 donation is requested. Please bring your own mat to enjoy an hour of yoga led by Lindsey Kepper. A potluck featuring live music will follow, so please bring your favorite healthy dish to pass and beverages. Plates, silverware and napkins will be provided.
