Construction affects voting locations

The city’s Public Works Department has agreed to expedite its project on three streets near Banfield Elementary School in preparation for the primary election. While those streets are currently closed, City Clerk Lucy Johnson said Public Works will open them Monday to provide voter access to the building.
“Banfield is not going to be an issue,” she said.
Voters will find their ballots in a different gym than before, though plenty of signage will be present to help them find their way.
Those going to Southgate Elementary will now come in through the parking lot on 21st Avenue SW, and enter the building through Door 7. The remodeling work being done on the school will prevent voters from coming in where they had in previous years through the north doors, Johnson said.
At Ellis Middle School there are no longer any east doors. Voters should go around the west side of the building and to the southeast parking lot.
“For those people that are going to vote, we need to have them comfortable where they’re going,” Johnson said.
All three polling locations should have adequate parking, she said. She doesn’t expect the time of day will make a difference in the traffic at the polls; voters probably won’t have to wait.
