A Dexter man spraying for weeds on his rural property was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester following an accident on his all-terrain vehicle.

John Shaw, 65, was spraying Monday on his property on Sandy Lane in Dexter when his ATV rolled on top of him, according to the Mower County Sheriff’s office. When Shaw’s wife had not heard from him after some time, she called his son, who went to check on him and found him pinned beneath the ATV. Shaw complained of chest pain and difficulty breathing.

Officers, who were called around 9:30 p.m., said the accident happened near a steep embankment on the edge of a pond.
