John P. Flink, 87, Rose Creek

John P. Flink, age 87 of rural Rose Creek, died on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea.
He was born April 17, 1925, in Spencer, Iowa, to Holger and Blanche (Olson) Flink. On Dec. 22, 1946, John was married to Shirley Mae Klingfus at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin. The couple raised five children: John, Jerry, Jay, Jim and Sherry May. As a family, they enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, sightseeing and attending Farm Fest every year. He took pride in his garden and yard and enjoyed country living. He was especially proud of his 1949 John Deer B tractor. John worked at Hormel Foods more than 38 years and farmed for many years.
Survivors include five children: John W. Flink of rural Austin, Jerry (Sunnee) Flink of Austin, Jay (Deb) Flink and James (Joyce) Flink, both of Albert Lea, Sherry May Senne of Red Wing; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a brother, Harley (Jan) Flink of Rochester, Minn.; a sister, Charlene (Gene) Gerber of Austin; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Holger and Blanche Flink; his wife, Shirley Flink in May 2012; one infant brother, Holger Jr.; sisters, Maxine (Clarence) Berkland and Linda (Marvin) Lageson.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Jeff Forbes officiating. Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
