August is going out with a bang.

High temperatures hit Austin today and will continue for the next few days as the month wraps up, said Meteorologist Zack Taylor, with the National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wis.

Temperatures were expected to reach the 90s today, while Thursday could reach the upper-90s, he said. Friday will be cooler, but likely still won’t drop below 90 for a high.

Taylor said strong winds will likely couple with the dry, intense heat.

“The winds start picking up a little bit today, but more so tomorrow, ahead of a cold front that’s going to hit the region Friday,” he said.

A fire weather watch is scheduled for Thursday afternoon leading through the early evening.

Elsewhere in Minnesota, temperatures are expected to hit near 90 degrees in Duluth by Thursday, 95 in Hinckley and 100 degrees in the Twin Cities. Those heading for the Minnesota State Fair should be advised an excessive heat watch is in effect for Minneapolis and St. Paul for Thursday, with a high of 101 forecasted.
