Austin women may want to keep their Tuesday schedule clear.
This week’s Tuesdays on Main event, Ladies’ Night Out, takes place Tuesday night at 3:30 p.m. The first 500 women attending will receive a free gift bag from the information booth in front of the Nemitz building.
“All of the vendors and all of the businesses downtown are focused on the needs of the ladies and what they’ll be looking for,” said Naomi Thompson, treasurer with the Austin Downtown Alliance.
A long list of vendors, activities and entertainment catering toward women will be featured. These range from wine tasting to a Capt. Jack Sparrow impersonator.
Thompson said the event’s popularity has been steadily picking up. People are “liking” the Tuesdays on Main Facebook event and telling their friends. She expects Ladies Night Out will be especially well-received.
“This one sounds like it’s going to draw a lot more than normal,” she said. “Every week it’s been growing and growing.”
The first Tuesdays on Main event, which was Hawaiian-themed, drew in about 1,500 people, according to Thompson. One of the most successful since then has been the Trick or Treat day.
“There’s going to be quite a few more vendors than we’ve had at the past ones,” Thompson said. While there have typically been the usual Main Street businesses plus 24 street vendors, she estimated about 30-40 street vendors will be part of this week’s event.
“All of the vendors have been very happy with it,” she added.
Although the theme is Ladies’ Night Out, Thompson said, men are still welcome to attend. Acoustic music will start at 3:30 p.m., followed by a D.J. at 5 p.m.
