Margaret Elaine Mouw (nee Dahl) of Albert Lea passed away on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, after a brief and unexpected illness. All who knew Marge remember her sharp mind, independence and unyielding generosity. Her warmth, wit and spirit of giving will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
Marge was born on her family farm in Ellendale on Dec. 29,1924. After graduating from Albert Lea High School she moved to Chicago, where she met Harold Mouw. They enjoyed dancing to the big swing bands of the day before moving to San Francisco. They were married there on Dec. 11, 1948, and a few years later became loving parents of daughter, Tonya. They moved back to Minnesota in 1958 and settled in Rochester. Marge worked as a waitress for over 50 years and spent her last 30 years at Michael’s restaurant. After Marge and Harold retired they enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their lake cabin in Nevis.
Marge was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Marge spent her recent years volunteering at the Eagles Club, the American Legion and Salem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cribbage and serving “a little something” to all who stopped by for a visit.
The family wants to express a special thank you to the staff at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for their dedicated and sympathetic care.
Marge is survived by daughter Tonya Mouw; granddaughter Nicoletta Neddermeyer; brother Chester (Jewell) Dahl; sisters-in-law: Donna and Marvyl Dahl; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by loving husband Benjamin Harold Mouw; parents Carl and Hilda Dahl; brothers: Omar, John and Art (Lorraine) Dahl; and sister Martha (Melroy) Nelson.
Memorials preferred to Salem Lutheran Church.
