Cross country: Austin’s Wollersheim and Splinter take first

MANKATO — The Austin boys and girls teams each finished in third place at the five-team Mankato West Invite Tuesday.
The Packers were shorthanded in the boys and girls races, but they had they still had each of the top runners as Mason Wollershim won the boys race and senior Haley Splinter won her first race since her sophomore year by taking first.
“(Haley) took the lead at the mile mark and never let up,” Austin head coach Tony Einertson said. “Haley has had a great last couple of weeks and has been running very consistent times.”
Andrew Baker took second for the Austin boys.
“Going one and two in a race with Mankato West and East is a nice accomplishment for the boys program,” Einertson said.
