Eva Schara, 88

Eva Schara, 88, of Austin, Minn., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.

Eva Marie Lattin was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Minneapolis to Paul and Irene (Crook) Lattin. As a child she attended schools in Sioux Falls, S.D., Chicago and Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1943. As a child Eva watched Mount Rushmore being sculpted. On Nov. 27, 1943, she married Kenneth Schara at First Methodist Church in Austin.

Eva worked at Capital Optical for many years. Eva loved to sing. She sang in the First Methodist Church choir as a young person and had been the oldest member of Grace Lutheran Church choir since 1949. Eva enjoyed sewing and made clothes for her grandchildren as well as doll clothes. Eva enjoyed traveling with Ken and was a Red Cross and St. Olaf Hospital volunteer for more than 35 years. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and Grace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. Eva and Ken spent a week every summer entertaining their grandchildren and taking them on trips. Ken and Eva were some of the original residents of the Chauncey Apartments and were Cedar River Days King and Queen in 1994.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, Austin; daughter, Deborah Marie Nordland (Roger Stahl), Austin; two grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) Nordland, Pine Island, Minn., and Angie (George) Bailey, Lakeville, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Brittany Nordland, Roman Nordland, Kendra Bailey and Beau Bailey. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Eva was a cousin to Buffalo Bill.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin.
