This fall, the Mower County Historical Society is offering four opportunities for genealogists to get more help and work on their family trees.
All events will take place in the administration building of the Mower County Historical Society.
The first, Family History 101, will teach the basics of genealogical research. Attendees will learn how to get started and organized, what types of materials are available that could be helpful, and where online resources could assist. This class will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 18 and on Monday, Nov. 12.
The second class offered is “How to Use Ancestry.com.” Attendees will learn how to navigate the site and use it to grow their family trees. The class will be offered on Monday, Oct. 22 and Thursday, Nov. 15. Each class will run from 6 to 8 p.m., and the cost is $10 per class. To register, contact Austin Community Education at 507-460-1706 or online at austin.revtrak.net.
Looking for some instructional help as well as designated research time? Attend a Genealogy Detectives Workshop. Each workshop will include instructional tips on the ins and outs of genealogical research and designated research time.
The first workshop will be on Friday, Oct. 12 from 5:30 to 11 p.m., and the second on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost for one workshop is $30 for members or $45 for both sessions. Non-members pay $40 or $60 for both sessions.
To register, contact the Mower County Historical Society at 507-437-6082. The registration deadline for the first workshop is Monday, Oct. 8 and for the second workshop is Monday, Oct. 29.
