Jamaica trip to help orphanages, schools

With the colder weather setting in, the warm sun and 90-degree weather of Jamaica sounds like a dream to many. Austin Church of Christ is looking for volunteers to make it a reality.
Every year, the church sponsors a mission trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Pastor Stephen DeFor is calling for those interested to discuss the next trip, which will be Jan. 6 through Feb. 6, 2013.
“It is not difficult work, but we believe it is important to serve the children and adults there in the name of Jesus,” DeFor said.
The group will work in two orphanages and two schools, carrying along school supplies, over-the-counter medicines, clothes and other items to give away.
“Last year my two suitcases going down weighed 47 and 46 pounds,” he said. “Coming back the two together weighed 19 pounds.”
The cost will be around $1,100 for airline tickets, hotel and transportation in Jamaica, and for most of the meals there. If interested, call DeFor at 507-437-6140 to discuss details. The group will order airline tickets shortly and will need to know who is going.
