The Casey’s General Stores powered by Swan Energy USMTS Modified Series invaded Chateau Raceway this week. It was stop number 11 on the Hunt For The Caseys Cup Tour and 34-modifieds signed in to battle for the $3000 first place check.

Also on the program were the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, USRA B-Mods, IMCA Stock Cars and Pure Stocks. Those four classes had their final night of track points, and there were several titles still up for grabs.

This week’s show was sponsored by Miner’s Outdoor & Recreation along with French’s Repair and Fabrication. They spread out some extra cash to the drivers, and there were several nice giveaways to the crowd also.

Going into the Misgen Auto Parts Pure Stock feature, Stacy Krohnberg held a four-point lead over Brady Krohnberg with just a 15-lap feature to determine a champion. James Misgen led until Matt Brooks took over on lap two. Noah Grinstead slipped into second, and then Cole Lonergan drove to third.

Lonergan got by Grinstead for second on lap three and then set after Brooks. Brooks spun on lap six to bring out the yellow. That left Lonergan in the lead with Grinstead second and then Brady Krohnberg and Stacy Krohnberg. Dylan Nelson spun and got hit hard by Katie Elward. Nelson continued, but Elward was knocked out of the race.

Lonergan led the remainder of the race for his third win of the season. Stacy Krohnberg finished second and locked up his first point title. Adam Godeke had a good late run to third with Matt Brooks and Brady Krohnberg in the top five.

Scott Demmer passed Pete Kiley for the lead on lap one of the L&D Ag USRA B-Mod feature and survived a challenge from Kylie Kath to win his seventh of the season. Kath got pressure from Jerry Young for second and they played a bit of tag, which resulted in Young spinning. They both were sent to the tail for the incident, which drew a yellow

Demmer won easily with Terry Kohnert in second. John Warrington was third with Kath in fourth and Dan Mattick fifth. Kylie Kath will be crowned the first ever USRA B-Mod point champion at Chateau.

The Farm Boy BBQ WISSOTA Midwest Modified division point battle ended up far less dramatic than hoped. Greg Pfeifer Jr. led Cody Gardner by five points to start the night. Pfeifer Jr. won his heat, but Gardner suffered a night-ending mechanical failure that gave Pfiefer Jr. his second consecutive track title.

The race was a mess under the full “blue moon” and it took three tries to get it started. Jeff Born led until his brother Jason took the point on lap four. Pfeifer Jr. made some noise and was up to third and then second when he passed Jeff Born on lap seven. Pfeifer Jr. reeled in Jason Born and they were close when another yellow came out on lap 11.

At that point, the race reached its five caution flag rule and then it was a green, white, checkered finish. Pfeifer Jr. snuck to the inside of Born and they rubbed a bit. Pfeifer Jr. made the pass and scored his sixth win of the season. It was a good week for Pfeifer Jr. as his wife Sheila gave birth to their first child on Wednesday and Pfeifer Jr. snagged a feature win and track title also.

Born finished second while Cory Eystad had a great run from eighth to third. Jay Clark was fourth and Jeff Born fifth.

Chris Adams and Lynn Panos put on a whale of a show in the Power 96/KQAQ970AM IMCA Stock Cars. Ryan Goergen and Austin Curtin started the feature tied for the point lead, so whomever finished first would be the titleist. Curtin would lead lap one and held on until lap five when Panos took the lead. Then Chris Adams got to second and was right with the leader. Adams stole the lead on lap 15 while Curtin still led Goergen for the title.

Curtin’s car pushed in lap 17 and Goergen scooted by for third, Curtin then spun, and the yellow came out. Curtin went to the tail and then on the restart got into Jesse Brown and Kellie Schmit for another yellow. Curtin was sent to the pits for his second yellow, and that handed the title to Goergen.

Panos reassumed the lead with two to go, but Adams was determined to get the win. Adams snuck by on the white flag lap and held on for his second win with Panos, Blake Cole and Ryan Goergen in the mix.

Then it was time for the 40-lap, $3,000 USMTS Modified finale. Mike Sorensen redrew the pole with Todd Scharkey to his outside. Getting a good redraw was important as both drivers have a ton of laps at Chateau and would be tough to beat on the tricky track surface.

Sorensen, who has more than 30-modified wins at the speedway and was the 1996 and 2008 Modified track champion at Chateau, took off from the pole and never looked back. Sorensen led every circuit to record his fifth career USMTS win. Even lapped traffic did not deter the veteran driver as he led Tommy Myer and Todd Scharkey to the checkered flag. Myer recently came out of retirement to drive for car owner Tom Paulson. Adam Hensel would finish fourth and Johnny Scott was fifth.

The Chateau Raceway will sit idle until Friday, Sept. 14 when the Border Wars event will take place. That will be the final event of the 2012 season. For more information please visit www.chateauraceway.net
