A road construction project on 14th Street NW is nearly complete.

While the road, which had been blocked to traffic for several months from Oakland to Eighth avenues, is open for use again, Assistant City Engineer Steven Lang said there’s still one more step.

“We’re setting the street lights this week, then work will be complete,” Lang said. That work will not impede traffic, he added.

Elsewhere, boulevard restoration on Ninth Street NW is still in progress, and the street is open only to local traffic.

Two similar road projects, one on 22nd Avenue SW and the other by the East Side Lake dam, are now underway. Crews will replace the water main, perform utilities work and lay down a new asphalt roadway with curb and gutter.

“Both of those projects are on schedule and will be completed here at the end of October,” Lang said, adding that city road construction was “starting to wind down.”

County projects

The county’s Public Works Department finished work on the Roosevelt Bridge on Fourth Street NE around the middle of last week. While the bridge is now open for automobile traffic, its bike lane is still closed as cleanup is still underway. Public Works Director Mike Hanson said the bridge may receive further repairs in the future.

Another bridge, on Fourth Street SW, was finished on Friday, and bridge replacement on County Road 4 is nearing completion as well.

“It should be within a week,” Hanson said.

Over on County State Aid Highway 1, the county is planning another bridge replacement. That project will begin at the end of October and should last through the winter.
