A townhome fire that raged Sunday afternoon left no one injured but a unit severely damaged.
Fire crews responded to calls around 2:45 p.m. that a townhome at 1501 16th Ave. SW was on fire. The three-unit structure, west of Casey’s General Store, had smoke coming from the roof and the basement of one of the units.
The unit’s sole occupant was out of the building at the time, but reportedly came to the scene while crews worked to put out the fire. Fire Chief Mickey Healey said the basement caught fire following a mechanical failure with an electrical panel.
The fire was contained to its original unit in the townhome and extinguished.
“There was extensive damage to the one townhome,” said Fire Chief Mickey Healey. “The other two units had no damage to them.”
The last of the fire crews left the scene by about 5:30 p.m.
