Susan P. Sunde, 69, Blooming Prairie

Susan P. Sunde, 69, of Blooming Prairie, Minn., passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Friday evening, Nov. 23, 2012.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1943, to John and Lorraine (Porter) Scheneman in Grand Rapids, Mich. Susan grew up in Grand Rapids and graduated from Grandville High School in 1961. She attended Grand Rapids Community College also. On Dec. 1, 1962, Susan married Paul Sunde in Grandville. To this union five children were born. The couple moved back to Blooming Prairie, Minn., in 1976, and Susan became a full time mom and homemaker. She was an active member of Bethlehem Free Church. Susan also found time to teach Art classes for Community Education in Blooming Prairie, Hayfield, Owatonna and Austin.

Her other talents included scrapbooking and collecting Raggedy Anns’ interior decorating. She was very artistic and imaginative especially when playing Scrabble. Susan enjoyed participating in Austin Community Bible Study, maintaining her beautiful perennial flower garden and her attempts at quilting. She volunteered at Rachel’s Hope and served as an EMT on the Blooming Prairie Ambulance Service. Her special memories were of family vacations to Pentwater, Mich., every summer; the entire family made memories together. Susan’s greatest joy was serving her family.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Sunde of Blooming Prairie; two daughters, Tammy Sunde of Harrisburg, Penn., and Keren (Jared) Smith of Goldfield, Iowa; and three sons, Jonathan (Ellen) Sunde of Blooming Prairie, Michael (LaNell) Sunde of Blooming Prairie, and Benjamin (Michelle) Sunde of Blooming Prairie; 14 grandchildren, Hannah, Cole Linnea, Gretchen, Paul, Will, Kendyl, Ayvah, Chloe, Caleb, Isaac, Abby, Isabelle and Anika; three sisters, Judith (Tim) Scheerhorn of Belmont, Mich., Peggy Scheneman of Grand Rapids, and Christine Rhoades of Blooming Prairie. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Gretchen; twin sons, Matthew John and Timothy Paul; and one sister, Jacquelyn.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at the Bethlehem Free Church in Austin with Pastor David Martin officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie and one hour before the service at the church. Interment is in the Danish Baptist Cemetery, rural Blooming Praire. Family prefers memorials to Rachel’s Hope. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
