Verneel Helen Kramer, 93, of Austin, Minn., died Friday afternoon, Nov. 9, 2012, at Primrose.

Verneel was born March 3, 1919, the daughter of John and Emelia (Collmann) Folkerts in Palmer, Iowa. She attended a country school near Palmer. On Dec. 7, 1938, she was united in marriage to John Henry Kramer at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Palmer. The couple raised four children farming near Palmer, until they moved to a farm south of Austin in 1952. Verneel was a wonderful cook and an award winning pie baker. She was also a collector of unique items. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. John died on Feb. 6, 1998. Verneel continued to make her home in Austin living at the Chauncey Apartments until moving to Primrose in 2008. She was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her three daughters, Jean (Charles, “Chuck”) Vlasaty of Austin, Bette (William, “Bill”) Koeff of Orchard, Iowa, and Mary (Steven Long) Kramer of Isle, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Karla Kramer of Guthrie Center, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Madora Gotsch of Austin; also many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Kramer on Feb. 6, 1998; a son, John; and a brother, Wilbert Folkerts.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Dr. Steve DeFor officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the funeral home.
