Anna Mary Durben, 96, Stacyville, Iowa

Anna Mary (Halbach) Durben, 96, of Stacyville, Iowa, died on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Stacyville.
Anna was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Stacyville to Anton and Gertrude (Simon) Halbach. She graduated from Visitation Catholic School in Stacyville.
Anna married Walter E. Durben on Oct. 5, 1938, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. She owned and operated Durben’s Clothing Store from 1950 until 1981. She was active in the Catholic Foresters and Christian Mothers. She also served as sacristan at Visitation Catholic Church for ten years. Gardening, sewing and crocheting were some of her favorite activities.
Anna is survived by her children, Juanita (Robert) Wageman, Stacyville, Joseph Durben, Woodland Park, Colo., Karen Fick, Clear Lake, Iowa, Jeanne (Barry) Overlee, Woodland Park, Colo., Daniel (Liz) Durben, Philadelphia, Pa.; daughter-in-law Patricia (Larry) Durben; one sister, Esther Klapperich, Stacyville; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Gertrude; husband, Walter; son, Lawrence (Pat); daughter-in-law, Linda (Joe); grandson Wally; three sisters, Priscilla, Agatha Heimer and Betty Brown/May; two brothers, Ronald and Cornelius.
Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Msrg. John Hemann officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Visitation Catholic Church, with a rosary at 5 p.m. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
