MANKATO — The Austin boys basketball team played a nearly identical game as it did on Friday as it doubled up Mankato East 72-36 on the road Tuesday.
Just like Friday against Mayo, the No. 2 ranked Packers (5-0 overall, 3-0 Big Nine) led by just 10 early on, but they turned up the pace in the second half.
“It was just like the Mayo game,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. “We didn’t play very well in the first half. We didn’t shoot well and we didn’t have rhythm.”
Bret Lukes kickstarted Austin by scoring all 10 of his points in the second half and Joe Aase added 16 points and eight rebounds in the win.
“It was nice to see Bret get some things going,” Fadness said. “He really stepped up.”
Austin 30 42 — 72
East 20 16 — 36
Austin scoring: Zach Wessels, 22; Joe Aase, 16; Bret Lukes, 10; Tom Aase, 8; Ajuda Nywesh, 7; Collin Weisert, 5; Tommy Olmsted, 2; Gach Gach, 2
