Adult Winter Roll volleyball league team deadline is Monday, Dec. 10. The entry fee is $184 plus a player fee of $8 per person on the roster. You can have a maximum of 12 players on your team.

Girls ages 11 to 18 interested in Austin Area Volleyball Club we are offering free open gym at Ellis Middle School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and Dec. 17. The gym will be staffed with volleyball coaches to help players with their volleyball skills.

Would you like to learn to shoot a bow? Try our intro to archery on Dec. 27 in the 4-H building at the Mower County Fairground­­­s. The cost is $10 which includes all equipment. R­­egister at the Park and Recreation office, 121 4th Avenue NE.

Adult Open Hockey in Packer Arena is from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. on Wednesdays, Wednesday and Dec. 19.

The cost to participate is $6. Goalies are free but must have all the proper gear. You must be a high school player or older to play in the Adult Open Hockey League. Remember when you play adult open hockey you must wear a helmet. No checking or alcohol allowed.

Open skates at Packer Arena this week are: 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday, 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 1:45 to 3 p.m. Saturday, 6 to 7 p.m. Dec 19 and 2 to 3:30 p.m. Dec 22 .

Public skate is $4 if you have your own skates or you may rent skates for $1. You may also purchase a membership at the Arena during open skate or in our Park and Recreation Office. Family of two is $70, extra members are $5 and a single is $50.

Youth wrestlers have started their season in the Austin High School wrestling room. It is not too late for you to sign up. You may do so at the Park and Recreation office at 121 FourthAvenue NE.

An assortment of the summer youth nature photos were put in notecards and are now available at the Nature Center. You can get five cards for $15.

The nature notecards would make a great Christmas gift. Please stop out at the nature center to take a look at the beautiful cards.

Are you looking for a place to rent this winter? Check out the Izaak Walton Cabin in Todd Park which stays open all year or another great facility is the Ruby Rupner Auditorium at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center. Call our office to check on availability or call the Nature Center for the auditorium at 437-7519.

The Youth Activity Center is open and free. Our hours are from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. On days where there is no school we open at 1 p.m. We are closed at 6 p.m. for Bruins home games.

Upcoming Austin High School home hockey games at Riverside Arena are: Packer girls hosting Rochester Mayo at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 . The boys will be back on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. against Mankato East. The JV start at noon.

The next Bruins home games are Dec. 15, 28, 28 and 31 at Riverside Arena. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
