The Packers played plenty of defense in their Big Nine boys hockey opener, but they couldn’t muster any offense as they lost 1-0 to Albert Lea (2-2 overall, 2-1 Big Nine) in Riverside Arena Thursday.

Austin (1-2 overall, 0-1 Big Nine) was out-shot 28-22 and AL got on the board in the second period when Lucas Peterson found the back of the net.

“We’re not happy with this game, but we’re satisfied,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “It was a really good defensive game.”

Austin has now allowed just one goal in its last two contests after giving up nine goals in its season opener.

“We’ve made a lot of improvement in the last couple of games,” LaRock said.
