Video surveillance allegedly foiled a former Salvation Army employee’s plan to burglarize that service organization’s drop-off center in Austin.

Police received the report from a Salvation Army employee on Monday that someone broke into the drop-off center, 700 10th St. NE, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. From video surveillance, an employee identified the alleged burglar as Duane Johnson, 39, of Austin, a former Salvation Army employee, according to the police report.

Police arrested Johnson at his home at 9:30 a.m. Monday. According to the report, Johnson admitted to being inside the building at that time. Though Johnson added there was another person there, surveillance only shows Johnson in the building, the report adds.

Police are unaware of any stolen property; however, they will review footage when they receive the video from the Salvation Army.
