Pacelli is celebrating the season.
The school’s annual winter gala celebration takes place Saturday night at the Austin Country Club.
“The Winter Gala is an annual event that was started in the early 80s to raise money for our school,” said Mary Holtorf, Pacelli’s principal. “This year, it will be the inaugural event to our 100th year.”
The gala is a formal event filled with food and entertainment to celebrate the staff, faculty, students and families of Pacelli. It begins with a cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by a dinner and entertainment by the Pacelli Singers. A recognition program follows.
“Typically, we have a short program highlighting the value of Catholic education, with the senior class president giving a speech on his experience at Pacelli,” Holtorf said.
A disc jockey-led dance party at 8:45 p.m. will finish out the night.
All funds raised from the event go toward student scholarships to help with tuition aid, which allows more students to attend Pacelli.
About 100 people plan to attend this year, which Holtorf said is more than last year. While the gala is one of many events planned throughout the school year to commemorate the 100th anniversary, the big event — the All School Reunion — takes place Aug. 24 and 25.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly said the Winter Gala would take place Friday night, when it will in fact take place Saturday. The Herald regrets this error.
