Jean Gappa, 73, Albert Lea

Jean Gappa, 73, of Albert Lea, Minn., passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in Albert Lea.

Jean was born on Sept. 23, 1939, to Tillman and Verlie (Christianson) Tollefson. She grew up in Maple Island and attended Albert Lea High School. She worked for Scotsman Ice for 25 years and after retirement she moved into Albert Lea in the early 2000s. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Jean loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, taking them shopping and then to lunch. She enjoyed puzzles and reading. Family was very important to her.

Jean is survived by her children, Dale (Jackie) Gappa of Brownsdale, Minn., Linda (Wayne) Thompson of Albert Lea, and Brenda Sorenson (Rick Johnson) of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Ryan Gappa, Drew Gappa and Chelsey, Carter Gappa, Jacob Thompson, Luke Thompson, Parker Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Tyler Hammer and his fiancé Brittany, Markie Sorenson, and Mallory Sorenson; brother, Darrel (Marlene) Tollefson of Burnsville, Minn.; sister, Judy (Bob) Remker of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Tillman and Verlie; and her grandparents.

The memorial service for Jean S. Gappa will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. Pastor Joel Vano will officiate. Interment will be in the Red Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to the service.
