Kenneth L. Tate, 90, of Oldsmar, Fla., died Jan. 14, 2013, at Brookside Hospice.

Kenneth was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Austin, Minn., to Lyle and Lila (Rasmussen) Tate. He married Margaret (Peggy) E. (Beck) Tate on June 7, 1947, in Austin. He and Peg toured the U.S. by motor home and motorcycle, and Kenneth was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He worked at Hormel for 42 years until retirement in 1982. They settled in Oldsmar after retirement with Hormel Foods Co. Kenneth is a World War II veteran with the 11th Airborne and participated in freeing the Japanese war prisoners at Los Banos, Luzon in the Philippines. Kenneth enjoyed being a ham radio operator in Austin, bicycling and being on his computer.

Survivors include a brother, Ret. Col Lester Tate; daughters Sandra (Steven) Isaac, Cindy (Paul) Osborne, Carole (Don) Nicholls, Debra (Robert) Whipple; four granddaughters, Jenny, Britt, Shawn, Shannon; seven great-grandchildren; and a companion after his wife’s death.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peg (Margaret) E. Tate; his parents Lyle and Lila Tate; and a great-granddaughter, Cami.

A service will be held Jan. 28, 2013, at Bay Pines National Cemetary in Bay Pines, Fla., with military rites and a private visitation will. Curlew Hills of Oldsmar is in charge of arrangements.
