Northwestern Singers going country

Austin’s own chorale and show choir The Northwestern Singers are going country when they present “Hooked on Country” as their annual winter concert at the Historic Paramount Theatre.
According to longtime Singer Alice Holst, it has been at least 15 years since they last presented a concert focused entirely on country music.
Any country music fan is sure to find something they enjoy. The concert will feature a huge variety of country music from Hank Williams’s “You’re Cheating Heart” to Sugarland’s “Stuck Like Glue,” including artists like: Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, John Denver, and Lady Antebellum.
It is even rumored Minnie Pearl may make an appearance.
As always, the show will feature full costumes and wonderful choreography by Katie Bergstrom. This will also be Nikki Krautbauer’s first winter concert as the Singers’ Musical Director.
Krautbauer has been a performer with the Singers and is the music teacher at Neveln Elementary School.
Like as in years past, the Northwestern Singers have invited elementary students from Austin Public and Pacelli Schools to sing a few songs during the show.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27.
Advance tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students. Unlike past years, these shows will be reserved seating.
Tickets can be purchased online at paramounttheatre.org, by calling 434-0934, or by stopping by the Paramount box office 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
