PLAINVIEW – The Austin wrestling team finished in eighth place out of 11 teams at the Plainview-Elgin-Millville tournament Saturday.
The Packers tallied a score of 76.0, while Scott West won the meet with a score of 193.5.
Austin’s Devon Felten took second at 138 after losing to No. 4 ranked Luke Zilverberg of Scot West in the finals, Brennen Russell took fourth at 126 and Mitch Tebay had to settle for fourth at 170 after being injured in his quarterfinal win and he wasn’t able to wrestle in the semifinals.
Brad Kamp picked up his first three varsity wins at 113 pounds and took fifth, Nathan Brinkman picked up his first varsity win at 132 and took sixth, Brandon Cotter took fifth at 145 and Riley Grinstead took sixth at 152.
“Overall, it was a very good day for some of our younger wrestlers,” Austin head coach Bill Kinney said. “Brad Kamp and Nathan Brinkman wrestled as well as they have all season. It will help our team a great deal if they continue to wrestle like they did on Saturday.”
Southland finished 11th at the PEM tournament with a score of 19.0.
