The Austin Parks and Recreation Board has agreed to be a partner with Vision 2020’s Community Recreation Center committee.
The board unanimously agreed to join the project to start a new recreation center in Austin at the park board’s Wednesday night meeting. Kim Underwood, Parks and Recreation director, also is a member of the recreation center committee.
“We’re trying to get as many partners as we can,” Underwood said.
The recreation center committee is also asking for $5,000 in support from the city of Austin to perform a feasibility study. The committee proposed that to the city council on Monday for review.
While there is no specific plan for how the park board can further the project, the move simply more to ensure the recreation center project has as much support as possible. Underwood added there is no plan at this point on who will run a potential recreation center or where a building could be built or renovated.
