The Austin boys hockey team wrapped up its regular season with a 5-2 loss to Owatonna (13-11-1 overall, 10-6-1 Big Nine) in Riverside Arena Saturday.
The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the second period and Austin’s Ethan Larson scored on assists from Cole Nicol and Tony Baudler to make it 2-1, but Owatonna scored three more goals in row to put it away.
The Packers (7-16-1 overall, 3-13 Big Nine) had 28 shots on goal and Rainer Londino-Green had 26 saves.
“I feel like we outplayed them,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “We had more scoring chances. We just couldn’t bury the puck.”
Trevor Stevens scored Austin’s other goal on an assist from Adam Maxfield.
The Packers finish the season in eighth place in the Big Nine and Rochester Mayo won the conference.
Austin will open Section 1A tournament play at No. 7 Red Wing Tuesday at 7 p.m.
