Lyle W. Hanson, 92, of Blooming Prairie, died Monday morning, Feb. 25, 2013, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minn.

He was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Newry Township, Freeborn County, Minn. to Aldine and Aura (Berg) Hanson. Lyle graduated from Blooming Prairie High School. From November 1942 to October 1945, he served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy as a pilot. On June 23, 1956, he married Evelyn Walk in Adams, Minn. Lyle lived and farmed in the Hayfield and Blooming Prairie area. The couple raised two children. A member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, Lyle served on the church council. He enjoyed fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins. Lyle was also a member of the American Legion Post 52 in Blooming Prairie.

Survivors include his sons, Lyndon Hanson of Coppell, Texas and Jamie Hanson of Blooming Prairie; two grandchildren, Evan and Philip; siblings Luther (Gloria) Hanson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Doris Samuelson of Elbow Lake, Minn., Dale (Austra) Hanson of Blooming Prairie; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Aldine and Aura Hanson; his wife Evelyn in 2003; his brother Kasper, and his sister Lorna.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. Lindsay Stolen officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 52 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 878 of Blooming Prairie.
