Mary Marcella (Carroll) Durben, 82, of Austin, Minn., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

She was born on Jan. 28, 1931, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of Edward and Martha Carroll. On Feb. 20, 1954, she married Norman Durben at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. They farmed in the Meyer, Iowa, area for many years. Norman started working at Hormel in Austin in 1970. They moved to Stacyville, Iowa, in 1973. In 1982, they moved to Austin, where they retired.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and children, reading, being Irish and playing cards. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Stacyville, the VFW Auxiliary of Osage, and the Golden Age Club of Austin. She will be remembered for her very infectious laugh.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Durben, Austin; three daughters, Pat Levorson, St. Ansgar, Iowa, Rose (Keith) Hemann, Iowa City, Iowa, Judy (Michael) Starr, Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Michael (Trudy) Durben, Austin, Minn., Jerome (Lara) Durben, Buffalo, Minn.; son-in-law, John (Sarah) Peterson, Lanesboro, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, Kristy Levorson, Kimberly (Cory) Nelson, Tiffany Burlingame, Jason (Lori Duit) Hemann, Lindsey (David) Brandon, Chandler, Corbin and Kayla Starr, Katlyn, Erik, Andrew and Isabelle Peterson, Joseph Durben; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Burlingame and Parker Nelson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph Carroll; daughter, Diane Durben-Peterson.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.mayerfh.com.
