The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning that includes Austin and Mower County. The warning calls for 4-9 inches of new snow beginning as soon as this afternoon, with most of the snow expected overnight. Difficult or hazardous travel conditions are also forecast, particularly early Monday morning. The snow is expected to taper and end by mid-morning.
Snow may accumulate at the rate of an inch per hour during the height of the storm, the Weather Service warning said.
Temperatures in the Austin area were forecast to top out at 35 degrees today, then fall through the night to about 21 degrees with winds out of the north at 18 mph, gusting as high as 26 mph.
Meanwhile, with warm temperatures melting this week’s earlier snowfall, the Department of Transportation urged drivers to watch out for flooding on Minnesota 105 just south of Austin between Mower County Road 5 and Mower County Road 4A.
