Arlin Howard Sawyer, 76

Arlin Howard Sawyer, 76, of Austin, Minn., died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Arlin was born May 28, 1936, in Austin to Merle N. and Alice (Ramseth) Sawyer. After graduating from Austin High School in 1954, Arlin joined the military. He then worked with his father in the gas station business before going to work for Hormel Foods in 1967, retiring in 1990. On Oct. 14, 1958, he was united in marriage to Delone Bakke at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Chapel in Austin. The couple raised two children. The Sawyer family lived on a hobby farm from 1973 to 1999 and then moved to Austin. Arlin was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the VFW and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed golfing and playing pool.

Survivors include his wife Delone of Austin; his children, Kelly (Joel) Langlie of Ellendale, Minn., and Dr. Michael (Stephanie) Sawyer of Rochester, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jake Langlie, Colin Sawyer and Morgan Sawyer; brother Mervale (Adair) Sawyer of Austin; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Merle and Alice Sawyer and his grandparents.

Private family memorial services will be held at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Bill Odermann officiating. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
