The suspect who stole a safe, electronics, cash and jewelry from a southwest Austin home Wednesday apparently decided to forego identity theft. He didn’t want the legal documents, according to the police report.

The homeowner in the 1400 block of 27th Street Southwest — who lost birth certificates, passports and a marriage license after the burglary — found them in a plastic bag in his driveway Thursday morning.

The victim was the second of two burglaries on Wednesday. More electronics were stolen at the other home on the 1400 block of Ninth Avenue Northwest. Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger urges homeowners to closely watch their neighborhoods in the midst of the string of burglaries.
