Hurst gets a shutout as Blue Devils win one of two

VERO BEACH, FLA. — The Riverland Community College baseball team split a pair of games with Division II teams at Vero Beach, Fla. Sunday.
The Blue Devils lost to Kirkwood, Iowa 3-2 and beat Iowa Lakes 1-0.
RCC sophomore Connor Hurst pitched the shutout against Iowa Lakes when he struck out nine and allowed just three hits. RCC (3-1 overall) scored its lone run when Tyler Krekling hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
In the loss to Kirkwood, the Blue Devils had the tying run on third in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t score it. RCC had led 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.
