Lyle may soon have its next superintendent.
The Lyle Public School Board decided at a Monday night meeting to offer the job of part-time superintendent to Jennifer Backer, who is currently superintendent in Cromwell.
If Backer accepts the offer, she will succeed Joe Guanella as superintendent at the end of this school year. Lyle board member Carl Truckenmiller said the board has contacted Backer and she is now considering whether to take the position.
“She wants to look at the contract,” Truckenmiller said, adding the board could hear back by next week.
The decision comes following interviews in mid-February, where the board met with Backer along with Michelle Mortensen, the current K-12 superintendent and principal in Ivanhoe, and Martin Avelsgaard, previously the superintendent at Lake Superior School District and director of Sana’a International School in Yemen.
