Blooming Prairie baseball team drops opener

BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The Blooming Prairie baseball team lost its season opener 5-2 to Medford (1-0 overall, 1-0 Gopher) in BP Monday.
Medford scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead for good.
BP pitcher John Rumpza struck out 11 and allowed just three hits, but he walked seven.
“John pitched a really good game,” BP head coach Paul Peterson said. “Their hits were timely.”
BP (0-1 overall, 0-1 Gopher) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but it couldn’t add to that total.
