Blooming Prairie’s superintendent has announced his retirement — and that he will keep his job.
The Blooming Prairie School Board accepted superintendent and high school principle Barry Olson’s retirement during a board meeting Monday. In the same meeting, the board approved a contract with School Administrative Specialty Services LLC to employ Olson in the same role.
Olson said he had put in his years with the Teachers Retirement Association — a pension fund that provides retirement, disability and death benefits to teachers, administrators and their families — and wanted to retire and collect his benefits.
“This was an option for me to continue to work and for the district to save money,” Olson said, calling the move a “win-win.”
The district expects to see a savings of about $16,000 a year as a result.
“My position is still superintendent with principle responsibilities,” Olson said. “No one will notice anything different.”
