Kenneth Luverne Tyrer, 93, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013.
Kenneth was born to William and Emma (Hagen) Tyrer on Dec. 21, 1919, in Austin. He grew up in Austin and started working for Hormel at the age of 16, then was drafted in to the Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and began to work for Hormel again until he retired.
Kenneth enjoyed camping, bird watching, traveling out west, photography, model trains, wood-working, western movies and spending time with his family, friends and church community. He had a lot of pride when he could help someone out with any project. Many people admired Kenneth for the love he had for his wife of 73 years, Marietta Tyrer. Kenneth was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Gordon) Anderson, Detroit Lakes; two grandsons: Todd (Cindy) Murphy, Detroit Lakes, Troy (Mary) Murphy, Little Falls; five great-grandchildren, Nick, Blake, Kaityln, Tayler, Rylee; sister: Sandra Donavon, Tuscon, Ariz.; brother-in-law Marlyn Swearingen, Owatonna, Minn.; three step-grandchildren: Angel (Rick) Jeanes, Faribault, Minn., Ed (Lori) Anderson, Maple Grove, Minn., Jason (Dineen) Anderson, Faribault, Minn.; 14 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Waiting to greet Kenneth in his new heavenly home were his wife, Marietta Tyrer; parents, William Tyrer and Emma Tyrer; sister, Dorothy Anderson; infant daughter, Susan; and stepmother, Ruth Tyrer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Pastor Brett Williams officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Memorials may be designated to Grace Baptist Church.
