Baseball: Packers split with Mankato West

MANKATO — The Packer baseball team split a doubleheader with Mankato West (3-3 overall, 3-3 Big Nine) as they beat the Scarlets 9-3 in the opener and lost 2-0 in the nightcap in Mankato Tuesday.

Austin (3-6 overall, 3-6 Big Nine) turned four double plays and had 10 hits in the win and it had just two hits in the loss.

“Our defense played very well and Nik (Gasner) threw well in the first game,” Austin head coach Troy Watkins said. “Jacob Kempen also threw well in the second game.”

Austin freshman Dylan Gasner knocked in four runs in the win and senior Hunter Gleason had a double and two RBIs.

Austin has now won the first game and lost the nightcap in all three of its doubleheaders this season.
