Blue Devil baseball team splits with Fergus Falls

The Riverland Community College baseball team had a pair of great pitching performances at Dick Seltz Field Wednesday, but the team had to settle for a split with Fergus Falls.
The Blue Devils won the opener 1-0 on a shutout from Connor Hurst and they lost the second game 2-1.
Cody Schact had a no-hitter with two outs in the sixth inning of the nightcap, but he allowed a bloop single and a run in the top of the sixth and Fergus Falls took a 2-0 lead in the top of the seventh on an inside the park homer.
“Both pitchers pitched well and deserved to win,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said.
RCC (19-10 overall, 3-5 MCAC South) had the bases loaded with nobody out in the sixth, but couldn’t score a run.
“That signifies our exactly what we’ve done all year with people on base,” Koenigs said. “We can’t get hits with runners on.”
RCC must now win at least three of its last four conference games to have a shot at the postseason as only the top four teams in the MCAC South will advance to the Region tournament.
The Blue Devils have lost seven games by one and two games by two runs this season.
“It’s frustrating because we could be 28-1,” Koenigs said. “If we get to the regions, we have a chance to win and get to the World Series. Our pitching has been great.”
