James Hallum, 82, Albert Lea

Memorial services for James George Hallum will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Andrea Myers will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea veteran’s organizations, VFW and American Legion. Private interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

James died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea.

James George Hallum was born on Jan. 5, 1931, to George and Rhoda (Talle) Hallum in Freeborn. He grew up and graduated from school in Freeborn. James served his country in the United States Army; he was stationed in Germany. On May 4, 1969, James was united in marriage to Mary Jean Nelson at Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a member at West Freeborn Lutheran Church until 1969 when he joined Grace Lutheran Church. He worked at Bill Olson Chevrolet as an auto tech. James was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed yard work, tinkering, repairing and fixing things.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; step-sons, Michael Nelson and Thomas Nelson; sister, VaLois Hallum; sister-in-law, Jeanne Hallum; nephew, Doug (Tammy) Hallum; niece, Linda (Bob) Kormann and their children Jessie and Cody; sisters-in-law, Betty (Bill) Kjarium, Kathleen (David) Wentling, Sarah (Philip) Hatten, Margaret Flynn and Karen Hubbard; and brother-in-law, Edward (Brenda) Hubbard.

James was preceded in death by his parents; son, Christopher; niece, Joanna; brother, Roger Hallum; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Flynn and John Hubbard.
