Lyle-Pacelli boys golfers open play solid in home opener

The Lyle-Pacelli boys golf team played their first match at Meadow Greens Golf Course Monday, and the results couldn’t have been much better.
The Athletics put up a season’s best score of 191 as they edged out Grand Meadow-LeRoy-Ostrander, which shot a 198, and Lanesboro, which shot a 200 and LP had the top two golfers in the meet.
LP senior Spencer Holtorf and junior Thomas Marx finished as co-medalists with a score of 46.
“We both played well for it being our first time here,” Holtorf said. “It’s a lot longer (than River Oaks was), but it’s open and there’s not as many trees.”
Marx said the key to succeeding at Meadow Greens was keeping the drives straight and avoiding the Prairie Brush and snow.
There was still snow on some parts of the course from last week’s blizzard.
Marx said it’s been a tough spring to get into a golfing rhythm.
“It’s kind of hard because it’s off and on,” he said. “You have a few good days and it rains and a few more good days and then it snows.”
Holtorf was glad to finally get a home meet in and he shared Marx’s frustration.
“We were hitting indoors for a long time and that was a little tough, because you don’t know if you’re actually going to hit good when you get outside,” he said.
Teddy King shot a 47 for the LP boys (3-2 overall, 3-2 SEC) and Maggie Leif shot a 48 for the LP girls.
