Paul Clarence Masching, 90

Paul Clarence Masching, 90, passed away on May 12, 2013, at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie, Minn., of natural causes.
Paul was born on Aug. 5, 1922, the son of George and Mary (Goetzinger) Masching in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up near Roselle, Iowa, and attended Holy Angels School. On Jan. 30, 1945, he married Margaret Engelen at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple spent their first five years farming at Churdan, Iowa. In 1950, they moved to a farm near Hayfield, Minn., where he continued to farm for the next 40 years.
Paul was involved with the Knights of Columbus as an honorary member and a Grand Knight. He was a board member of the Fairview Nursing Home, and RCO pipeline. Paul was active with the building of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was the church janitor for many years. He also worked at the Hayfield Community Pool, drove a school bus for 10 years, and drove a sweet corn picker for Libby’s Canning Company. Paul loved hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards, woodworking, traveling, painting and weaving lawn chairs. Paul and Marge enjoyed many winters in Mesa, Ariz., and loved spending time at their cabin on Ten Mile Lake at Hackensack, Minn., with family and friends.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Margaret of 68 years, Hayfield; their children, Robert (Renée) Masching, Green River, Wyo.; MaryLou (George) Schroeder, Bovey, Minn.; Ronald (Regina) Masching, Waltham, Minn.; Jean (Darrell) Beaver, Hackensack, Minn.; Ruth Ann (Joe) Matuszak, Green Bay, Wis.; Richard (Margaret) Masching, Hayfield; Peggy (Rick) Gehling, Grand Meadow, Minn.; Pat Masching (Deanna Guy) McIntire, Iowa; 28 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mildred Morman; brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Velma Masching; brother, Leonard; and sister, Esther.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Second St. NE in Hayfield. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 14, 2013, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 Second St. NW in Hayfield, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. and Rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 8:15 p.m.
