A four-run fifth inning helped propel the Austin Greyhounds to a 6-4 win over the Westmont, Ill. Red Sox Friday night in the Spamtown Challenge giving it its second win of the tournament and putting them automatically in the final four of the tournament on Sunday.
The Hounds fell behind early as Westmont put up two runs in the first for a 2-0 lead until the third inning when the Greyhounds tied the game with two runs of its own.
Westmont regained the lead briefly with a run in the fifth, but it didn’t last long as the Hounds went to work in the bottom half.
John Frein and Andy Swank put together back-to-back singles and would score not long after along with Joe Krock and Matt Cano. The inning gave the Hounds a 6-3 lead that they never gave up.
Klatt went five plus innings and Zach Schara came in relief, getting the save.
Frein was 2-for-3 on the night at the plate with two runs scored.
The Hounds will play the Blue Sox Saturday which has no bearing on the tournament, but does have league significance.
