Accused assailant convicted of misdemeanor; felony dropped

An Austin man accused of punching a woman and briefly knocking her out in July 2012 has been convicted of a misdemeanor.
Jorge Alfredo Ramirez, 26, of Austin, was convicted of misdemeanor domestic assault Monday in Mower County Court. A felony third-degree domestic assault charge was dismissed. Ramirez was placed on one year of supervised probation and fined $300.
The victim said Ramirez punched her at about 11:30 p.m. on July 21, 2012, because she would not have sex with him, according to the court complaint. The victim claimed she was knocked out for several minutes. Police spoke with the victim and said she had blood on her chin, according to the complaint. Police then arrested Ramirez and took him to the Mower County jail.
